With their clean lines and comfort button‐backed chesterfield sofas are truly timeless and look as good in a modern warehouse apartment as in a grand country abode. The classic version comes in tan leather but for a sumptuous update I love the raspberry‐pink and pewter‐colored velvet numbers here.

This daybed with great light control provided by the Roman shades is perfect for a 2 p.m. date with the sandman. Use a light blanket to cuddle up with. You will have a hard time falling asleep if you are chilly. Be careful to not overheat with heaters and blankets as this may cause you to oversleep. Surround yourself with blue. Blue is associated with tranquility and produces a calming effect. It is good for the mind‐body connection. Think of the sea and the sky and the calming effect of being outdoors. Try to find a space in your home where you feel removed from everything that is going on. Ideally you want to be away from the noise of TVs cell phones and the doorbell. This cozy nook feels just like a nest and curtains provide a visual barrier.

Feel virtuous when lathering up with a WaterSense‐certified shower head. WaterSense understands that no one wants a wimpy shower spray so all their approved fixtures tout a "satisfactory shower that is equal to or better than conventional showerheads on the market" while using just 2 gallons of water per minute.

Aim to keep only the books you love and those you will read again and let go of the rest. Your living room will thank you.

If you have cupboards crammed with old VHS tapes or hundreds of jewel cases for CDs that are already loaded into your computer and other devices it is high time to purge the old stuff. For discs you do want to keep save space by removing them from the case and slipping the discs inside a binder made for the purpose. Just one or two media binders can hold hundreds of CDs DVDs and Blu‐ray discs.

The listening cabinet's front panels are a light wash in gray‐brown tones that keep the room from being too weighed down by wood. The cabinet has a classic look with updated detailing; the double ring pulls bring in a few curves and another metal finish.

With a simple color palette such as black and white letting fireside shelving blend in rather than stand out can be a wise idea. This wall unit has been built into and out from the wall around the fireplace. The design houses the TV in style and creates a spot for recessed shelving to one side.
