The apartments in Olympic Village need to be a place where athletes can mentally emotionally and physically prepare for the biggest sporting moments of their lives. Here's a peek into the sleeping quarters common areas and open grounds where they're staying. Jonathan Edwards Olympic gold medalist and chair of the Athletes' Committee within the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games worked with a panel of architects interior designers and other athletes to implement additions in the apartments. Units range from one‐bedrooms to four‐ and five‐bedroom townhouses. A peek inside the bedrooms reveals Union Jack–clad standard beds that are 5 feet 8 inches long. Basketball players swimmers and others taller than that may request the superlong extendable Olympic beds. Blackout shades provide privacy and optimum sleep conditions. For the first time in the games' history there are lounges (pictured here) in each apartment where athletes can watch TV as well as large areas of green open space outside for them to relax in between events. Owning a piece – or a set – of Olympic history is within your reach when it comes to apartment furniture. Remains of the Games is already selling furnishings fixtures and equipment to interested buyers. You can purchase what's called the Athletes' Bedroom 4‐Piece Set (including a bed a mattress a night table and a nightlight) for only $150. "So many people want a piece of the Olympics and they're just mad about games memorabilia " says Paul Levin a marketing executive at Remains of the Games.

"When I found these I knew they would be key pieces to the room. They are showstoppers" Ricco says. The warm bronze on the base and hardware is part of a wide variety of mixed metals in the room while the light base stands out against the dark cabinet. The etching even mimics the artwork. The cabinet lamps and painting serve as the main focal point in the room.

I recommend that clients select appliances and sinks during the preliminary design phase which often comes before selecting the rest of the finishes and fixtures. This is so the plans can reflect the proper sizes which will in turn affect the cabinetry layout. Also I recommend picking the type and amount of lighting fixtures during this phase: cans semi‐flush mounts how many pendants over the island and so on in order to complete the lighting plans so the contractor to provide estimates. Most people haven't actually picked what style pendant light yet but at least the decision about number is done.

Marble is a big investment but without exception marble dining tables are nearly always showstoppers. Tables crafted from quality imported marble are extremely beautiful. Buy without guilt if you truly fall in love with one – marble's timeless appeal will make it a table that is always in fashion – but do be aware that a marble tabletop comes with a couple of drawbacks. First marble tables of any kind are bulky and heavy. Second they have to be well looked after as the marble can crack and stain. To overcome these limitations to buying a marble table as a forever piece choose a small round table which is a lighter choice than most rectangular ones while still being able to seat four to six guests. To avoid stains keep the table cleared and clean at all times covering it with a tablecloth or placemats when red wine and foods that can damage marble are on the menu.
