Shades of purple are thought to have a calming effect so they are a smart choice for a bedroom. Mix small hits of pinks and purples with larger swaths of warm whites for a pretty soft and soothing sleeping space.
Mix in drywall or plaster with reclaimed wood and stone. The white walls in this bedroom let the Montana moss rock fireplace and rough ceiling beams and planks stand out. The rest of the color and material palettes pick up on the colors found in the stone and wood.
Achieving the right proportion of accent wall to other wall space is crucial. Here wood‐paneled walls go beyond just an accent but work beautifully thanks to a high ceiling and a neutral palette.
Lights. If you have a well‐placed window in your kitchen but the angle does not invite a lot of light it could be a perfect place to add a pendant light. The fixture will help illuminate the counter and will give the feeling of a natural radiance emanating from the outdoors.
If you favor cooler hues try a palette of blue‐grays then spice it up with hints of hot red. This is a terrific palette for an office or a kid's or teen's bedroom. The grays have a soothing vibe but the heart‐racing red injects some energy into the space.
Kick up the drama in a mostly white kitchen by adding small bits of a warm dark gray. Use the gray to highlight interesting architectural elements. Then make the look fun and fresh with an accent color in a leafy shade of green.
Watch out for splinters and nails. You'll need to make sure the wood is properly sanded so splinters won't be an issue. When using wood collected from a demolition make sure to carefully remove any old nails. The pieces will need to be planed and cut to the desired shapes and sizes also. Unless you have the right tools and machines this prep work should be done by a professional finish carpenter.
Add some soft and rough. The color scheme here is simple but the effect is stunning. Look beyond the simple monochromatic palette and you'll see a range of textures at work. Contrast the matte black wall with the rough surface of the white painted bricks and the soft inviting bed throw with the rough natural‐fiber rug. Even the ceiling and artwork are textured. This is an all‐over tactile and visual feast.
